Bellevue’s BellHop Shuttle Service Expands with New Electric Vehicles

Bellevue’s commitment to sustainable and accessible transportation has taken a significant step forward with the expansion of the BellHop shuttle service. The city has recently added three new Kia EV9 electric vehicles to the BellHop fleet, enhancing both the environmental impact and the rider experience.

Enhancing the Fleet

Since its launch in August 2023, the BellHop service has been a popular choice for residents and visitors seeking convenient transportation within Bellevue. The addition of the Kia EV9s brings the total fleet to eight vehicles, comprising three Kia EV9s and five Waev GEMs. These new vehicles offer reduced charging times, allowing for longer service hours and the ability to serve more riders. Additionally, the climate control features ensure a comfortable ride in all seasons.

Environmental Impact

The BellHop service has made a notable contribution to reducing greenhouse gas emissions in Bellevue. To date, the service has provided over 134,000 rides, covered more than 113,407 miles, and prevented 59.46 metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions. The integration of the Kia EV9s is expected to further enhance these environmental benefits.

Community Support

The expansion of the BellHop service has garnered support from both city officials and local businesses. Bellevue Mayor Lynne Robinson highlighted the benefits of the new vehicles, stating, “The use of the new KIA EV9 vehicles and the ability to offer faster service to the community benefits the entire city.” She emphasized that the initiative aligns with Bellevue’s priorities of reducing greenhouse gas emissions and providing accessible, sustainable transportation options.

Amazon has also recognized the value of the BellHop service. Shannon Loew, Vice President of Global Real Estate & Facilities at Amazon, noted that BellHop has been an integral transportation solution for Amazon employees and the community by electrifying urban mobility and reducing single-occupancy vehicle trips in Bellevue.

Looking Ahead

As one of the first Circuit programs in the nation to integrate the Kia EV9, Bellevue is leading the way in innovative, sustainable mobility solutions. The city continues to explore opportunities to enhance public transportation and reduce its environmental footprint, ensuring that Bellevue remains a vibrant and accessible community for all.
