Bellevue continues to evolve with several significant initiatives aimed at enhancing our community’s livability and sustainability.
Affordable Housing Expansion
In February 2026, the City Council approved a substantial funding allocation to support affordable housing development. This includes up to $25.7 million from the Housing Stability Program and $11.3 million from the Affordable Housing Fund, facilitating the creation of 271 new affordable housing units in Bellevue. This marks the largest single funding round in the city’s history, accelerating housing projects throughout the area.
Sustainability Initiatives
In October 2025, the City Council adopted the 2026-2030 Sustainable Bellevue Plan, reinforcing the city’s commitment to achieving carbon neutrality by 2050. The plan outlines strategies focusing on climate change mitigation, energy efficiency, sustainable land use, and natural system preservation. Key initiatives include expanding the Energy Smart Eastside program and promoting building decarbonization and electrification of the city’s vehicle fleet.
Introduction of Paid Street Parking
In May 2026, the City Council approved an ordinance to implement a paid curb pricing program in Bellevue’s urban core, including Downtown, Wilburton, BelRed, and the Spring District. The program will utilize a dynamic, demand-based pricing model with hourly rates ranging from $1 to $8, aiming to maintain an on-street occupancy rate of 80%, or about 1–2 open parking spaces per city block.
These developments reflect Bellevue’s proactive approach to addressing housing affordability, environmental sustainability, and urban mobility, contributing to the city’s ongoing growth and enhancement.
