Heritage and Strength at Bellevue High School
Bellevue High School maintains one of the most storied athletic traditions in Washington. The school offers 20 varsity sports along with dozens of others, including both team and individual competitions. Sports such as cross country, lacrosse, tennis, soccer, swimming, track, wrestling, and football have produced multiple state titles over the years. Bellevue High competes in the 3A classification under the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association (WIAA), with spirited rivalries and packed stadiums especially during football season.
Cuts, Clubs, and Non-WIAA Opportunities
Some sports at Bellevue are “cut” programs—those where tryouts decide who participates—while others are club-level activities. Sports like lacrosse, water polo, and girls’ badminton are offered outside of the WIAA’s official purview but still allow students to compete and grow.
The Energetic Pulse at Bellevue College
Bellevue College’s Bulldogs are making noise this athletic season. The women’s soccer squad opened with a decisive 6-0 win over Shoreline, highlighted by strong offensive play, while the men’s team also beat Shoreline 4-1 after bouncing back from an early deficit.
The volleyball team is riding high too, going undefeated in their NWAC Crossover tournament at home and building momentum with consecutive wins. Despite a tough loss to Peninsula, the college teams are showing competitiveness and promise across sports.
Community Impact and What Comes Next
Athletics in Bellevue isn’t just about competition—it’s about community. High school games draw families, friends, and neighbors together, especially for fall staples like football and soccer. At college matches, supporters rally behind the Bulldogs, fostering a sense of pride and energy in the hallways and in the stands.
Looking forward, new student-athletes are encouraged to register early, attend meet-and-greets, and explore both cut and club sports options. Opportunities abound in Bellevue for those eager to try something new, gain confidence, and be part of teams that emphasize effort, respect, and growth. The season ahead promises to strengthen traditions while forging new stories of triumph.
