Hi—Lucas Hernandez here. If you’re in Bellevue this weekend (or any weekend, really), here are some favorite spots and ideas to help you get outside, explore, and enjoy our city. Think parks, waterfront paths, family-friendly fun, and a few little-known corners locals adore.
1. Get Outside and Breathe
Bellevue Downtown Park & Inspiration Playground
Right in the heart of downtown, this 21-acre park has it all: a half-mile canal promenade, a waterfall, wide lawns, and a great playground. Great choice for a morning walk, picnic lunch, or letting kids run wild.
Bellevue Botanical Garden
Spend a few hours wandering among 53 acres of themed gardens, native plant sections, and a striking ravine bridge. Beautiful and peaceful, whatever the weather.
Waterfront Time
Places like Meydenbauer Bay Park and Enatai Beach Park let you feel connected to Lake Washington: beach walks, boat watching, paddle sports, or just enjoying lake views with your morning coffee.
2. Hidden Gems & Nature Trails
Mercer Slough Nature Park
A 320-acre freshwater wetland just minutes from downtown. Boardwalk trails, quiet observation points, and canoe or kayak access—it’s one of the best ways to pause and breathe.
Coal Creek Natural Area
Forested ravines, mining history, creekwise exploring, and less of the crowds. Ideal for a solo walk or a family hike with stories to tell.
Wilburton Hill Park & Lake-View Corners
If you want views plus swing-sets, gardens and fields, this is your spot. Also, Chism Beach and Chesterfield Beach offer quieter lakefront time without heading far.
3. Arts, Culture & Community
Self-Guided Walking Tours
The Bellevue Self-Guided Walking Tour weaves through parks, plazas, historic sites, murals, and more—giving you layered views of the city’s past and present.
Community Centers & Programs
Five community centers around Bellevue host everything from arts classes to climbing walls, youth theatre to swim lessons. These often feel more local and surprising than you’d expect.
4. Weekend Itinerary Ideas
If you want a full plan, try this:
- Morning: Breakfast in Old Bellevue, followed by a walk through Downtown Park.
- Midday: Explore the Botanical Garden, then head to the bay for paddleboarding or a relaxed lunch by the water.
- Late afternoon: Visit a hidden gem like Coal Creek or Mercer Slough.
- Evening: Dinner in Old Bellevue or the Bellevue Collection; maybe catch sunset views or skyline glow.
5. Rainy-Day Moves
Not every weekend is dry. When puddles win:
- Check out indoor spots — the Bellevue Collection offers shopping, cinemas, places to eat under cover.
- KidsQuest Children’s Museum is great for hands-on learning when you’d rather stay inside.
- Community centers often host drop-in classes or workshop events: art, dance, or other creative escapes.
Whatever your pace—fast-tempo outdoor adventure or slow afternoon with a book—Bellevue’s weekend options are as varied as they are beautiful. Let me know if you’re interested in kid-friendly picks or late-night ideas; I’ve got suggestions for those too.
