Bellevue Embraces Global Stage with FIFA World Cup Festivities

As the FIFA World Cup approaches, Bellevue is preparing to welcome soccer enthusiasts from around the globe. While Seattle hosts several matches, Bellevue is organizing a series of events to celebrate the tournament and engage the community.

Community Watch Parties and Public Events

The Bellevue Downtown Association (BDA) is spearheading initiatives to transform key public spaces into vibrant hubs of activity. A highlight is the community watch party scheduled for June 19 at The Meadow, where fans can gather to watch the USA vs. Australia match on a giant outdoor screen. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own seating, with space available on a first-come, first-served basis.

In addition to the watch party, the BDA’s Pop-Up on the Plaza series will feature soccer-themed activities throughout downtown Bellevue. These include free-to-play foosball tables and decorative installations of flags representing all 48 participating countries, adding an international flair to the cityscape.

Local Businesses Join the Celebration

Local establishments are also embracing the World Cup spirit. Mirra, an interactive games venue and bar in the Bellevue Collection, plans to transform its space into an immersive watch-party atmosphere, broadcasting matches on large screens to recreate the stadium experience.

Bellevue Brewing Company is introducing a special World Cup-themed beer called Bellevue Baller, crafted with ingredients from the tournament’s three host countries: grain from Canada, corn from Mexico, and hops from the United States. A portion of the proceeds will support Mid Lakes United, a local youth soccer organization. The brewery will also show every match, creating a central gathering place for fans throughout the tournament.

City Support and Infrastructure

Recognizing the influx of visitors, with projections estimating around 15,000 overnight guests during the tournament, the City of Bellevue is providing marketing resources and permitting guidance to businesses and organizations planning World Cup-related events. The city has contracted with local groups, including the Bellevue Downtown Association, Visit Bellevue Washington, BelRed Arts District, and the Spring District Authority, to host community-centered programming that will serve Eastside residents, workers, and visitors.

With the new light rail Crosslake Connection offering direct access to Seattle’s Lumen Field from six Bellevue stations, visitors can enjoy a seamless, car-free experience between the two cities. This connectivity positions Bellevue as an ideal basecamp for World Cup festivities, combining urban energy with accessibility.

As the tournament unfolds, Bellevue’s efforts to create inclusive and engaging experiences reflect the city’s commitment to celebrating global events while fostering local community spirit.
