Bellevue’s BellHop Shuttle Service Expands with New Electric Vehicles

Bellevue’s commitment to sustainable urban mobility has taken a significant step forward with the addition of three new Kia EV9 electric vehicles to the BellHop shuttle service. This expansion brings the fleet to a total of eight vehicles, comprising three Kia EV9s and five Waev GEMs.

Since its launch in August 2023, BellHop has provided over 134,000 rides, covering more than 113,407 miles, and has prevented approximately 59.46 metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions. The introduction of the Kia EV9s offers several advantages, including reduced charging times, allowing for extended service hours, and enhanced climate control features to ensure passenger comfort throughout the year.

Mayor Lynne Robinson highlighted the broader impact of this initiative, stating, “The use of the new KIA EV9 vehicles and the ability to offer faster service to the community benefits the entire city. By reducing greenhouse gas emissions with electric vehicles that provide accessible, sustainable options, it touches many Bellevue priorities.”

Amazon has also recognized the value of the BellHop service for its employees and the community. Shannon Loew, Vice President of Global Real Estate & Facilities at Amazon, remarked, “BellHop has been an integral transportation solution for Amazon employees and the community by electrifying urban mobility and reducing single-occupancy vehicle trips in Bellevue. We applaud this continued investment in innovative and sustainable options that contribute to a greener, more connected future for the regions we call home.”

As one of the first Circuit programs in the nation to integrate the Kia EV9, Bellevue continues to lead in providing innovative and sustainable transportation solutions for its residents and visitors.
