Bellevue is actively implementing strategies to enhance housing affordability, public safety, and community well-being, reflecting its commitment to a thriving and inclusive city.
Advancing Housing Affordability
In March 2026, the Bellevue City Council advanced an updated Affordable Housing Strategy (AHS) for 2026-2032, aiming to produce and preserve over 5,700 affordable units for residents earning between 0% and 80% of the area median income. This strategy builds upon the successful 2017 AHS and emphasizes the city’s dedication to meeting regional housing goals through diverse and innovative solutions.
Enhancing Public Safety
To improve road safety, the City Council approved the ‘Safe Speeds Bellevue’ program in June 2026, reducing speed limits on 84% of arterial roads. Notably, corridors like Bel-Red Road and NE 20th Street saw speed limits drop from 35 mph to 25 mph, aiming to decrease high-end speeding and reduce crash severity.
Addressing Community Needs
In November 2025, the council allocated $600,000 from its contingency fund to support organizations providing immigrant and refugee legal assistance, as well as urgent food and financial support. This decision underscores Bellevue’s proactive approach to addressing the immediate needs of its diverse community.
Community Engagement and Participation
The Bellevue City Council encourages residents to participate in its regular meetings, held at 6 p.m. on the first four Tuesdays of each month at City Hall. Agendas are typically posted the Thursday before each meeting, and community members can register to speak starting at noon on the day of the meeting. These sessions provide a platform for residents to voice their concerns and stay informed about city developments.
Through these initiatives, Bellevue continues to demonstrate its commitment to fostering a safe, inclusive, and vibrant community for all residents.
