Bellevue continues to evolve with significant developments across leadership, transportation, and housing sectors, reflecting the city’s commitment to growth and community well-being.
New Leadership at City Hall
In January 2026, the Bellevue City Council elected Mo Malakoutian as the city’s new mayor, with Dave Hamilton appointed as deputy mayor for the 2026–2027 term. Mayor Malakoutian, who has served on the council since 2024, emphasizes priorities such as affordable housing, public safety, transportation, sustainability, and equity.
Transportation Enhancements
The Bellevue Police Department’s Light Rail Unit (BLU) is prepared for the March 28 opening of the Crosslake Connection, a major expansion of regional transit connecting Seattle and the Eastside by rail. The BLU Unit, established in April 2024, aims to ensure a safe and positive rider experience along the Link 2 Line.
Housing Developments
Addressing the need for affordable housing, Sage Investment Group converted a former Quality Inn into Bellevue Ridge, a 106-unit studio apartment complex catering to middle-income renters. This project underscores the demand for affordable rental housing in Bellevue, one of the most expensive areas in the greater Seattle region.
These developments highlight Bellevue’s proactive approach to leadership, transportation, and housing, aiming to enhance the quality of life for its residents.
