Bellevue has been making significant strides in sustainability, focusing on reducing greenhouse gas emissions and enhancing environmental resilience. Recent data indicates a 4.6% decrease in emissions between 2023 and 2024, attributed to reduced energy consumption, cleaner electricity, and evolving transportation habits.
In October 2025, the City Council adopted the 2026-2030 Sustainable Bellevue Plan, outlining strategies across five key areas: climate change, energy and buildings, mobility and land use, waste, and natural systems. The plan aims to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050, with interim goals of a 50% emission reduction by 2030.
Additionally, Bellevue’s commitment to sustainability is evident in infrastructure projects like the Coal Creek Sewer Upgrade, which earned Salmon-Safe certification for its efforts to modernize wastewater systems while improving habitats for fish and wildlife.
These initiatives reflect Bellevue’s dedication to fostering a sustainable and resilient community for current and future residents.
